Managing teams and projects to meet a private, public or voluntary organisation's goals.

This Apprenticeship provides you with a range of management and leadership skills, such as managing personal performance and development, contributing to meetings in a business environment and leading and managing a team. It also provides you with a range of knowledge needed to work in a team leading role.

A team leader/supervisor is a first line management role, with operational/project responsibilities or responsibility for managing a team to deliver a clearly defined outcome. They provide direction, instructions and guidance to ensure the achievement of set goals. Working in the private, public or third sector and in all sizes of organisation, specific responsibilities will vary, but the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed will be the same whatever the role.

Key responsibilities are likely to include supporting, managing and developing team members, managing projects, planning and monitoring workloads and resources, delivering operational plans, resolving problems, and building relationships internally and externally.

Roles/Occupations may include: Supervisor, Team Leader, Project Officer, Shift Supervisor, Foreperson, and Shift Manager.

Entry Requirements

Ideally you should have a minimum of grade C in both maths and English. If you do not hold these minimum grades, you will be assessed on your ability to complete the programme and will undertake Functional Skills classes to improve your skills.


These qualifications are delivered entirely in the workplace and not in a college environment.

Where could this lead?

Once you've achieved your Apprenticeships, you could go on to complete further education and qualifications. You could also progress to an Advanced Apprenticeship in Management. With experience you could become a section manager, first line manager, assistant manager, trainee manager etc.

On completion, apprentices may choose to register as Associate members with the Chartered Management Institute and/or the Institute of Leadership & Management, to support their professional career development and progression.

Course Content

The Team Leading Intermediate Level Apprenticeship Framework is made up of four components. To be successful, all four elements must be completed and achieved.

Practical and Technical Element: OCR Diploma in Team Leading
